Maybe my standards are too high, but Hunan Springs failed to satisfy this new girl's cravings for good quality Chinese food. One indicator of an excellent Chinese place (to me) is the quality of their moo shu dish. The beef itself tasted OK but the veggie/beef combo as a whole was under seasoned. I asked for a medium spice level and it was pretty bland. The real kicker was the pancakes. There were four pancakes that came with the moo shu but I got an extra surprise. When I went to use the second pancake, I noticed just that one pancake was covered in overcooked white rice and was stuck to the pancake underneath it. Not sure about the random rice towards the middle of my stack of pancakes but it put off my appetite. Not to mention later on in the night I was sick and had to move into the bathroom. Ugh. Next time I'll try another restaurant with more positive reviews.

Food was amazing. Pretty hard to find the place if you go in for pick up but other than that they had large portions and wonderful food! Definitely my go to Chinese place. And the sesame balls, which were not on the menu, AMAZING!

First time here. When i went inside i was a little afraid this place would be too expensive because it looked "fancy". I am used to chinese places that kinda looks like it got slapped together if you know what i mean. It is nice and clean here. I got the happy family lunch combo, spicy hot soup, and sesame balls! Happy family is a mixture of fried vegetables with beef, chicken, and shrimp served with your choice of steamed rice or fried rice. The taste is not necessarily remarkable, soup was ok. However I would definitely come back for the sesame balls!! They make it fresh for you and its crunchy on the outside and the sweet bean paste inside is just right in sweetness. I would love to explore more of their menu.

I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food but sometimes I want some quick and easy delivery and they seemed like a reasonable place to get it from. Lo Mein was delicious (even as cold leftovers), General Tso's chicken was great, crab rangoons are addictive, sesame chicken was just okay. Definitely recommend the egg drop soup.

I ordered the chicken lo mein, beef fried rice, sweet n sour chicken, hot n spicy chicken, and steamed rice as the sides for the two main plates and it was all delicious. Good balance of meat, vegetables, and other ingredients for a great price per item. The delivery time was great as well and the delivery driver was very personable and polite. Definitely ordering from here many more times in the near future! Nom nom nom!

Stayed at the nearby Clarion. This was a practically perfect room order experience. The phone guy asked the right q's for a first time order: sweet or savory, type of main protein, and offered me several choices. The garlic chicken came hot, delivered by a charming del'y guy who gave me an enthusiastic synopsis of why he admired Shirley Temple (movie buff) & best of all the food was fresh, well prepared and delicious. I wanted simple & healthy & that is what I got.

What the heck are people talking about when rating this place? Decor needs major upgrading for a downtown restaurant, food is blah. I had to spit out a green bell pepper because it tasted weird. I gave it two stars because the lady serving was funny and good. She kept saying thank you for everything. Made us smile.

Outstanding! I ordered through GrubHub. Service from Hunan Springs was PERFECT! Delivery was quick, food was hot and tasty, plenty of condiments, utensils, napkins, plates, chop sticks and fortune cookies. Absolutely perfect!!!

I've been going to Hunan for a few years and I love it. My favorite part is that it's totally family friendly. The server has her two boys there from time to time (in a side room they don't use) and always bring out a cars plate for my toddler that he loves. The food is good, service is great and even their delivery is super speedy. Love the egg rolls!

Food was pretty good. The only issue was with the delivery. We were staying in the Hilton and did not have plates or utensils. We ordered four entrees and the delivery bag only had three forks and plates, but I didn't think to open the bag to check when paying. It would have been great if the delivery person asked us how many we needed. We were also shorted a rice but we ordered more food than we needed so it wasn't a big deal.

BEST. General Tso's chicken. EVER. Phenomenal. Lovely, lovely, lovely. I've never sat down to eat in the restaurant, but I ordered the General's in 2009, loved it, and had such a delightful experience (treated to a free drink while I waited), that I paid extra to get it delivered to my hotel during this week's trip. Again, it was perfect.

I have been craving for Chinese food, and COS is not know for good Chinese food. After reading yelp reviews, I decided to give Hunan Springs a try. As expected, it is typical Americanized Chinese food that is similar to Panda Express. The service was friendly and prompt. I asked for my food to have less salt. After tasting the food, I would imaging that it would be quite salty as how they normally season their food. I only had the fish with mixed vegetables and fried rice. The fish tasted fresh, and they should use more Asian vegetables. The fried rice was ordinary. Overall my meal was okay, and it was not as greasy as I anticipated. I gave three stars because for COS, this is quite decent. Else where I would give it a two stars.

This place is awesome if you want some authentic Chinese flavors and huge portions. Went there for dinner last night and I was really impressed with the quality of the food. I had sweet and sour chicken and my boyfriend had the garlic beef. Super flavorful and very large portions. We started with the Crab Rangoons and the crab was really yummy. My only drawback was the decor and overall cleanliness of the place. I felt like it just needed a detail cleaning and the place would feel a lot nicer. Seemed like a lot of locals were there and the owners knew them all by name - always a good sign. Overall good food, decent location. Definitely worth a try.

I really enjoy chinese food that's done right. It is probably one of the easiest foods to mess up- too greasy and sloppy sometimes. I got a beautiful plate of Sesame chicken that was made more spicy than normal at my request. I got a Long Island iced tea to go along with it and it was surprisingly delicious! Fantastic Long Island, really though. Our server was very attentive and helpful. Definitely my new Chinese food spot.

Hunan Springs is my favorite Chinese joint in The Springs. As another reviewer mentioned, it is family owned and operated. The owner, Mai, is ridiculously friendly. She always lights up when I come in and I can expect a hug (maybe I goto Hunan Springs too often haha). I love my food spicy so my standard order is the Hunan chicken "extra spicy". Their sesame chicken is really good as well. Lunch prices are nice and cheap too. Whenever I find myself downtime at lunch I drop in.

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. We went at 4PM on a weekend several weeks ago, so perhaps we just hit the restaurant at a bad time. They only brought us half an order of our appetizer - she said that she dropped the first order. After that, it took them another 30 minutes to bring us the rest of our appetizer. Of course, we still got charged for it. The food took almost an hour to arrive, giving us plenty of time to admire the hideous pink paint and chintzy decor in the dining room. When the food finally arrived, it was mediocre American Chinese food. Nothing special to write home about, and pretty bland. I was prepared to give this restaurant 2 or 3 stars, but the dealbreaker for me was seeing a cook come out in a sleeveless muscle shirt, which is a health code violation. Then he sat down with our waitress in a booth and ate dinner, still in his cook's hat and apron. I realize that servers and cooks are human beings who are entitled to breaks, but I thought it was unprofessional. After realizing that he probably prepared our food while wearing the same sleeveless shirt, I was totally put off my dinner and spent the rest of our miserable time at Hunan Springs picking through my uneaten food to make sure that none of the cook's underarm hair had fallen into it. Totally disgusting, won't ever return.

obviously it's not the best chinese food in town, but it's exactly what you want when you want thiiis kind of chinese food: yucky, greasy, sometimes weird and gelatinous is what i'm looking for. all that's missing? couch and beer. employees on the phone who take your order are great, delivery is either on-time/early. i've never had it be late. solid choice for downtown-area cheap chinese.

For some reason, I like this place, even though the food doesn't wow me. I have yet to be wowed by any Chinese food in the Springs, so I guess that's why I keep going back here - because the place itself doesn't bug me. The staff is friendly and they give you enough rice (it drives me nuts me when Asian places short you on rice... it's really not that expensive). The food is basic, bland Colorado-Springs style. Don't ask them to make it spicy, because they just squirt in a lot of extra chili sauce and you can't taste anything else. Not a place for a date, but for a good warm lunch on a lazy weekend afternoon, it's not bad.

Ambiance: Attractive and tastefully decorated dining room. Comfortable booth seating, with some tables as well. Service: Waitress was very friendly. Can't complain about the service. Food: Very bland and uninspiring selections. Their lunch menu is identical to the low-end American-style so-called Chinese joints scattered throughout the town. Nothing original! I ordered one of their spicy chicken entrees. Wow, absolutely no heat (and very little flavor). The waitress came over and said "Wow, that is really spicy and you ate most of it!". I replied that there was no heat to this dish whatsoever. Fried rice was pretty tired. Overall, yet another of the countless mediocre-to-poor excuses for Chinese food in Colorado Springs. With "Hunan" in it's name, the cuisine should at least be a little spicier and consists of more flavors that are found in the Hunan region of China. Beware -- the food here is Hunan in name only. I won't be back.

As I have previously stated, I am a big fan of any place that will deliver food to my doorstep. What can I say, some days I don't want to stop for food on my way home from work, nor do I want to cook! In steps Hunan Springs. There is nothing spectacular about the food at Hunan Springs, it is mostly your run of the mill Americanized Chinese food, and the prices are about the same as any other similar restaurant in town. What does make Hunan Springs great is the fact that they will deliver, and they always over-estimate how long it will be for your food to arrive, so that when it arrives before they told you it would, you get really excited. I have never actually dined in at Hunan Springs, but if you are looking for Chinese delivery within a 4 mile radius of Hunan Springs this restaurant definitely fits the bill!

Freindly fast service. Prices are very good, portions large. Mongolian Chicken was so good, we got an order to go for dinner. Staff is kind and attentive. Definetly going to visit again.

It took a while to get here. We tried 2 other Chinese joints before finally finding one that was open. 1 star for being open on Sundays (too bad, 2000 Wok and Coal Mine Dragon!). The waitress is SUPER polite and sweet. Service gets a star. The food...was ok. Despite the menu saying that DH's choice (and mine) were spicy, there was no heat to be found (other than temperature, which was fine). It was your average sweet asian sauce. Mine was suppose to be General Tso and his was sesame and neither one was spicy at all. I don't really care too horribly much. I was hungry and it tasted pretty good. So they get a star for that, but just one. The pupu platter was nice-strip of teriyaki beef, crab rangoon, butterfly shrimp, "chicken ball" (a chicken nugget), chicken wing and eggroll. I don't eat seafood so I can't speak to the rangoon or the shrimp but the rest was great. We were all wondering what "chicken ball" could possibly mean though, so that was fun. I was kind of expecting a seasoned meatball but it's just your average processed chicken nugget. If another Sunday rolls around and I need General Tso chicken again, I know where I'm headed I guess (since everything else seems to be closed).

I had a hankering. Yelp brought me here. The service was outstanding! I cannot tell you how wonderful the service was. I was waited on absolutely superbly. I started the meal with hot and sour spicy soup. It had a bit of heat, but nothing major. The iced tea was fresh brewed and refreshing. I had two glasses before I even ordered my meal! The egg roll that came with my meal was hot and crispy! The twice cooked pork, extra spicy, with steamed rice, was a delight. With many flavors and textures it made me happy. The portions were hearty and they did not skimp on the pork. I believe they do a lot of carry out and delivery orders, but the dine in experience was great. I will come again. You should also. You'll be glad you did!

Great food, super fast delivery! This is money well spent :) I have been ordering from Hunan Springs for almost 2 years now and I am still amazed by the flavors, quality, and quantity you get every time. It is so convienent to order from their extensive menu here on yelp. Once you order Eat24 keeps you updated the whole time. If Hunan Springs isn't too busy, my food usually shows up within 30-40 minutes! Perfect!

Classic American-style Chinese restaurant. I went with the double cooked pork with hot and sour soup plus egg roll. All decent. Having lived in Taiwan, China, Sydney, and Boston, my standards are high and they were solid.

A good restaurant for Chinese cravings. I usually get the Sesame Chicken but have tried a few others. I need to try the General Tsaos Chicken. We had to stop going there from our office because my coworker had 2 bad meals there. Both pork. They corrected it, but I'd be wary of the pork. Not sure what happened. I've not had a bad meal there. I also add broccoli to the sesame chicken and it adds a nice touch to it.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
